What Is an AVO?

An Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) is a civil court order under the Crimes (Domestic and Personal Violence) Act 2007 (NSW) designed to protect a person from violence, harassment, or intimidation.
ADVOs apply to domestic relationships; APVOs apply to non-domestic disputes such as neighbours and colleagues. An AVO does not result in a criminal record, but breaching an AVO is a criminal offence carrying up to 5 years’ imprisonment for persistent breaches.
